The sophisticated Greek restaurant Gargantua, situated on the alluring seafront of Vrahati, takes its name from the hero of the satirical work, Gargantua by the great French author Rabelais. Gargantua, a giant of a king, known for his gluttony and huge capacity for good food and drink, would be in his elements at this wonderful restaurant, run by Nikos, his wife Hara, brother Angelos, and sister Olympia.
After obtaining his degree in business management, Nikos decided to combine business with his passion for cooking, and enrolled in a Greek culinary school in Piraeus. After Nikos graduated, the three siblings and Nikos’ wife, Hara, opened their first restaurant, En Plo, which soon became known for its excellent traditional Greek dishes.
Nikos’ love for cooking and passion for constant improvements, lead him to attend many seminars, both in Greece and Europe, in cities famous for their culinary prominence.
In 2013, Nikos, now with more knowledge and experience behind him, took a great leap forward and opened a new restaurant – The Gargantua.
By searching out only the best quality produce, from small selected suppliers from all over Greece, creating delicious authentic Greek dishes, often with a modern twist, yet respectful of tradition, and with his love and passion for Greek cuisine, Nikos achieved the highest Greek awards in a short time.
Nikos and his team – Olympia, with her knowledge of restaurants both in Greece and Italy, Angelos, the “Liquid Chef” with his admirable wine list and impressive signature cocktails, Lori, with her vast experience of traditional Greek cuisine, and Socrates, an ambitious young chef, along with Hara taking care of them all, have placed Gargantua, as best restaurant of its category alongside the very top restaurants of Greece, in the esteemed Greek restaurant guide Alpha Guide, presented in the Athinorama Magazine.
The team of Gargantua is happy and proud of their exceptional service and delectable, traditional Greek dishes, and is waiting to share it all with you.
